Transportation Photographs

Historic photographs are wonderful documents.  They show how the land looked in the past, how people dressed, worked, and played, and they help us give a face to history.  Students will have the opportunity to look at and discuss historic methods of transportation.

Questions for Students:

  1. What type of transportation does this photograph show?  Why do you think the photographer chose to take a photograph of it?

  2. Are there any people in this photograph?  Who do you think they are?  Do they know they are being photographed?  How can you tell?

  3. What do you think the weather was like that day? How can you tell?

  4. Choose one person in the photograph you would like to speak with.  Who would it be? What would you ask him/her?

  5. Imagine that you are in the photograph.  What are you doing?  How do you feel?

  6. Have you ever used this type of transportation?  Would you like to?  Why or why not?
